Danielle and Andrew celebrated their wedding on a beautifully sunny August day at Sandhole Oak Barn in Cheshire. With its lakeside setting, open countryside and relaxed atmosphere, it was the perfect backdrop for a summer wedding filled with laughter, personality and genuine moments.

As amateur actors, Danielle and Andrew are naturally expressive and comfortable in front of the camera. But there was no need to turn their wedding into a photoshoot. The best photographs came from simply watching the day unfold — the laughter, quick glances, big reactions and all those smaller moments happening in between.

That’s always what I’m looking for.


Wedding Photography at Sandhole Oak Barn

Sandhole Oak Barn is a fantastic Cheshire wedding venue to photograph. The barn sits beside its own private lake, surrounded by open countryside, giving us plenty of variety without having to take the couple away from their guests for long periods.

On Danielle and Andrew’s wedding day, the August sunshine made the outdoor spaces particularly beautiful. From the lake and surrounding fields to the barn itself, there were opportunities for photographs throughout the day as the light continually changed.

My approach to wedding photography is simple: let the wedding remain a wedding rather than turning it into a photoshoot.

Most of the day is photographed exactly as it happens. When we do create portraits, I use gentle guidance rather than complicated posing, allowing couples to still look and feel like themselves.

Danielle & Andrew’s Sandhole Oak Barn Wedding

Danielle and Andrew both have a background in amateur acting, so they brought plenty of personality to their wedding day.

Wedding photography, though, isn't about putting on a show for the camera. There’s no script and there are no second takes.

Rather than over-directing them, I concentrated on their natural chemistry and gave them space to be themselves. Their personalities did the rest.

The resulting photographs feel energetic, relaxed and unmistakably them.


A Sunny August Wedding in Cheshire

Beautiful August weather meant guests could make the most of Sandhole Oak Barn's outdoor spaces and lakeside setting.

These relaxed parts of a wedding are often where some of my favourite photographs happen.

People stop thinking about the camera. Conversations develop, friends laugh together, children do unexpected things and reactions happen for a fraction of a second. Individually they can seem like tiny moments, but together they become the real story of a wedding.

My job is to anticipate them and be in the right place when they happen.

Natural Wedding Photography With an Editorial Edge

Alongside the documentary photography, we made time for a small number of more refined portraits of Danielle and Andrew.

Nothing complicated and no disappearing for an hour-long photoshoot.

Instead, we used the surroundings, the available light and the landscape at Sandhole Oak Barn to create portraits with a more editorial feel while keeping everything natural and relaxed.

Real moments. Refined portraits. Without taking over your wedding day.

For me, the two styles belong together. Documentary photographs preserve how the wedding actually felt, while a handful of carefully considered portraits give a couple something a little different alongside them.


Over 1,000 Photographs Telling Their Complete Wedding Story

A wedding is about far more than the ceremony, confetti, speeches and couple portraits.

Some of the photographs that become most important over time can be the ones nobody planned — a parent's expression, friends laughing together, a reaction during a speech or something happening quietly at the other side of the room.

From the earlier moments of the day through to the celebrations later in the evening, I photographed the people, reactions, details and unexpected moments surrounding Danielle and Andrew.

Their finished wedding gallery contained over 1,000 individually edited photographs, creating a complete visual story rather than simply a collection of highlights.

It means they have the moments they remember - and plenty they never even saw happening.

Summer Wedding Portraits at Sandhole Oak Barn

One of the great advantages of a summer wedding at Sandhole Oak Barn is the opportunity to use the softer light later in the day.

Rather than taking a couple away from their wedding for long periods, I prefer to watch the light and, when conditions are right, head outside for a few minutes.

It keeps everything relaxed, gives us an opportunity to create something special and means the couple can quickly get back to their guests.

With the lake, open countryside and surrounding landscape, Sandhole Oak Barn gives a wedding photographer plenty to work with throughout the day.
